Woman slammed for wearing 'off-white' gold dress to friend's wedding

A lifestyle influencer whipped up a comment storm earlier this week after she posted a video of a dress she wore to a friend's wedding.

Erika Wheaton uploaded a Tiktok of her and a date preparing to attend a wedding in New York. In the video, she is wearing a strapless Bec + Bridge Moon Dance champagne-coloured dress that some believed was too close to white for a wedding. 

One commenter called Wheaton "delusional" because she claimed the dress "photographs off-white."

Another wrote, "Any form of white, gold, champagne, light light pink etc… Should be left for the bride and bride only. I don't understand why people do this." 

In a follow-up video, which has now received over 1.4 million views, Wheaton shared photos of her at the wedding in a variety of lighting conditions and surrounded by other guests.

The majority of viewers perceived the dress as gold or champagne coloured and believed the original commenter was over-exaggerating, with many telling her she needed to go see an optometrist.

"It's champagne and an extremely popular colour for weddings," said one.

On the original video, another viewer said you could compare it to the whiter colours around Wheaton and see the dress was not white.

"The guy's shirt is white, hers is clearly champagne."

Others noticed in one of the group photos Wheaton shared, there was another wedding guest in an even lighter champagne-coloured dress that still didn't look white. Many also noted the bride seemed fine with the dress colours at her wedding.

"The bride's white dress looks even more vivid and white because of ya'lls gold dresses," said one viewer.

However, some commenters still claimed they wouldn't wear this colour to a ceremony.

"Personally, I would hesitate wearing it because I see what she means, but the bride clearly has no issue and it's ultimately her call!"
