Man shares controversial method to stop people cutting across his front lawn

A man has posted a video showing his controversial method of prevent people from cutting across his front lawn.

Thomas Lyons, who shares videos on TikTok @tgunz81, lives in a home located on the corner of two streets. His front yard is unfenced and has no plants, making it a tempting patch of grass walkers can cut across to save themselves a precious eight seconds on their way to and from places.

The problem is, they are trespassing and trampling all over his perfect grass.

Lyons has reportedly asked regular offenders not to cut across his lawn, to no avail. Footage shared on TikTok shows several different people walking across his grass at all times of the day and night.

The way Lyons has managed to stop the grass-trampling trespassers, however, has divided opinions.

He ended up installing sprinklers that go off whenever they detect motion, meaning trespassers are drenched and left to run off the lawn as fast as they can.

Lyons has shared footage of his method in action, quickly racking up an extraordinary 39.7 million views.

Many of his followers have praised his efforts, with one commenting, "There's a sidewalk 10 feet away... constantly walking over the grass will kill it."

"I was always taught not to walk on people's grass but I never knew why," another person says.

"Also, if they tripped and fell on the grass and broke their leg, I'm assuming they would sue the owner," says another understanding TikTok viewer.

"These people are trespassers," comments another.

However, many people question why Lyons went to the trouble of rigging the sprinkler to wet trespassers when he could have used that same energy to build a fence.

"The level of petty," says one person.

"These are school kids," comments another. "You could just put a stone path. It's just grass, kindness means so much more."

Another says, "Or you could build a fence like normal homeowners do."

One person defended the people cutting across the lawn, saying, "Cutting across the grass has saved me from missing the bus many times. People cut because it's faster and 30 seconds can make all the difference.

Another person comments, "I really hope you don't do this to your mail man/delivery drivers."
