Teen charged after allegedly pushing friend off 60ft bridge

The teenage girl who pushed her friend off a 60 foot (18 metre) high bridge has been charged by police.

Video footage shows Taylor Smith, 18, shoving her friend Jordan Holgerson, 16, in the US on August 7.

The dramatic fall caused the girl to puncture a lung, bruise her esophagus and shatter five ribs.

On Friday, prosecutors in Clark County, Washington, announced charges against Smith, claiming she "created a substantial risk of death or serious physical injury".

Holgerson told NBC she hopes her former friend received jail time as punishment for the prank gone wrong.

"I wanted Taylor to be put away for a little bit so that she can think about what she did and about her actions," she said.

Holgerson, who said the teens had been friends for about a year, wants Smith to pay for the hospital stay, and said she’d "maybe" sue for damages.

"If it gets to that point," she told NBC.

Video of the treacherous fall, which shows a group of teenagers egging on Holgerson to jump, went viral.

Smith said her friend asked her to push her off the bridge even though the footage shows Holgerson clearly saying: "No I won't go".

"She wanted to jump and she was scared and she had asked me to give her a push," Smith told ABC.

"I've apologised several times, but I have not been able to see her in person."

As for if their friendship, Smith is hoping she will one day repair the fractured bond.

"I hope so, I really love that girl," she said.
