Honey Birdette ad banned for being ‘highly sexual’
Lingerie retailer Honey Birdette has been banned from displaying a new advert in its stores after a number of customers complained that it was too sexual.
The Australian Ad Standards Bureau notes that an image for the new campaign breaches a section of the code which states that “Advertising or Marketing Communications shall treat sex, sexuality and nudity with sensitivity to the relevant audience”.
Of seven adverts created for the new campaign, only one has been banned. It features two women wearing black suspenders and bras from the “Issy” range, which come in a sheer material and therefore show some of the models’ nipples.
The digital billboards are on display inside stores, which are only open to those over 18. However, it was deemed that the shots expose minors to “inappropriate marketing”.
Monaghan told news.com that her brand is "empowering women".
“We’re entering a particularly conservative time where girls are being made to cover up and it’s not okay," she said. Most viewed in Lifestyle
