Unlikely hack saves Melbourne woman's car windscreen from freezing overnight
A Melbourne woman has saved herself plenty of time on winter mornings after finding a way to stop her car windscreen getting icy during the night.
Bianca Castledine tried the towel hack on her vehicle and showed the results in a TikTok video.
The hack involves placing a towel over the windscreen the night before so that it can collect all the ice instead of the window.

The TikTok shows that the trick works with Castledine's bath towel looking quite frosty. When she removes, it the windscreen is clear of ice and ready for driving.
"POV (point of view) you learnt a life hack to help with Melbourne's frosty mornings," the caption on the video read.
People who viewed the clip had plenty of thoughts and questions, including how to do the hack when it's windy.
One suggested tucking the towel under the windscreen wipers, while another, who uses sheets instead of a towel, tucks the ends into the doors.

Some viewers said they already use this hack, while others had their own tips for dealing with icy windscreens.
"I do this in Tassie as soon as it's winter," a woman said.
"Sunshade works even better," one commented.
"Bucket of cold water for the win I say!!!" wrote a TikTok user.
"Newspaper works too with wipers on top," posted one.
Iisopropyl alcohol + water. 1 to 3 mixture. spray on it will melt the ice," another said.
In place of a towel, Barum Tyres recommends other items including cardboard or a shower curtain. It seems anything that creates a barrier between the ice and the windscreen (and doesn't scratch) is OK.
It also suggests using a freezer or plastic bag to cover side mirrors and keeping it down with rubber bands.

You can also try parking a different way if that's an option.
"Just have your car front window point east – that's where the sun rises. Especially if you don't have to head out before sunrise and nothing blocks the sun, you can just let nature do all the work for you," Barum Tyres said on its website.
Alternatively, if you haven't tried any prevention methods the night before you can scrape the ice off the next morning with a plastic card from your wallet.
Just don't use hot or boiling water to remove the ice as this can damage the windscreen.
