The only thing more frustrating than clothes coming out of the washing machine with stains is when emerge with holes that weren't there before.

But first you have to find the culprit and to do this Fraz uses a microfibre cloth to rub over all the little holes in his front loader machine.

"What we're looking for is any snaggy bits, these little holes can get little burrs and sharp bits on it. So feel around for any sharp ones that you think isn't totally smooth," he said.

Once you've found the sharp bit you'll need to grab a Phillips head screwdriver.

Then pop the screwdriver in the sharp hole and "give it a firm whack: using the handle of another tool.

"What it will do is it will send the barb back facing the other way so it's not poking up and spiking your clothes. Then just get your cloth back in there and run it over there just to make sure that sharp edge has gone and that's it," he said.

"I thought it was from open zippers," one said, to which Fraz responded, "It can be."

"Once I separated the jeans and shirts with buttons [from] T-shirts. It stopped," a woman said.

"Sometimes a bra underwire comes loose in the wash and gets wedged down one of those little holes in the drum, snagging on the clothes. Rare but it has happened to me," one commented.

"I was told using the spin too high and some of the cloth is popping through the other side of the drum which is ragged and catching causing the holes," another said, which Fraz confirmed can happen.

In response to a different comment Fraz offered even more possible causes of holes in clothes, "check all around the edge of the drum too. Also overloading can cause clothes to get trapped in between the drum and the rubber seal so just be mindful of that when loading it up."

Clothes can also get holes in them outside the washing machine if they are attacked by moths and from the button and zippers in waistbands rubbing on shirts.
