A lot of us are trying to look for ways to save during the cost of living crisis, including radio host Jackie O who has been trying to cut down her electricity bill.

But when she mentioned on The Kyle & Jackie O Show that she doesn't always want to use the dryer because of the cost of power usage, Kyle Sandilands couldn't relate.

The radio host was surprised to hear Jackie refer to using the dryer as a "luxury", which he considers a "necessity", because he's not worried about his power bill.

"Do you know how much my electricity bill is per quarter? $8,000," he said.

"I've got pool pumps, electronic gates, every room's air conditioned, they're all on, even if I'm not there."

Jackie told Sandilands the air conditioning is likely one of the biggest contributors to his big electricity bill.

"I'm trying to get [my power bill] down," she said, adding that she's been researching what makes electricity bills so high.

After that admission, Kyle went on to list other things he uses electricity for, including a habit that is likely one of the things that keeps his bill at $8,000 a quarter.

"The floor heaters, because sometimes I like a warm floor but cool air and they battle each other," he said.

Jackie confirmed that floor heating "is your biggest enemy" when it comes to power costs.

"That is expensive – forget about it. Just put on slippers," she said.

Sandilands didn't seem to mind the cost though. He told Jackie, "It's not like there's an energy shortage or anything".

However, he did admit "it is a huge waste" of electricity.

According to Compare the Market, the cost of an average quarterly electricity bill in Australia is $411.80.

Despite Sandilands' power bill being significantly higher than that, many of us can probably admit to some bad habits that increase our power bills.

A survey by Finder found that air conditioning is costing Australians $2.4 billion a year and about one million people leave their air conditioning on when they're not at home, something Sandilands admitted to doing himself.

This wastes about $28.8 million a year and is something we can easily get in the habit of not doing to help cut costs.
