Unexpected Kmart buy turns into expensive-looking artwork for just $10

A shopper has come up with a DIY to create stunning artwork on a budget using an unexpected Kmart buy.

Michelle saw lots of creative potential in the $10 floral printed tablecloth, which she purchased specifically to create large canvas art out of.

In an Instagram reel, she showed the steps she took to create her clever DIY.

"When I spotted the beautiful Floral Printed Tablecloth at @kmartaus I immediately thought how pretty the colours were and how nice it would look as artwork. I had an old, large canvas print that I was going to throw out but I had hung onto it thinking I might do something with it one day," she captioned the post.

"So I painted over the dark sections white so that it wouldn't show through the fabric and simply used a staple gun to attach the tablecloth - and voila a large piece of new artwork!"

By using items she already had at home, the gorgeous artwork only cost Michelle $10, even though it looks like an expensive piece.

Best of all, you'd have no idea the artwork was supposed to be a tablecloth.

The floral tablecloth canvas is now hanging in a bedroom, where the bed is styled with a cushion made from the leftover tablecloth fabric.

That means Michelle's savvy hack has allowed her to create a piece of art and a cushion for just $10.

The DIY was a hit with Michelle's followers who are keen to give the project a go themselves.

"Love! Now to get my hands on one of these new tablecloths!" a woman said.

"This is such a great idea! I'm always looking for different sources of material for my products (by the metre can get expensive) so I sometimes use quilt covers with nice patterns but I never thought of tablecloths!" wrote a follower.

"Ooh, I might use the green gingham (tablecloth) one to make some cushion covers," commented one.

"About to try that on a lampshade fingers crossed," another said.

It's not the first time a Kmart product has been sewn into something different. Previously tea towels have been turned into bowl cozies, while quilt covers have become fabric gift bags and even kids clothes.
