The little known trick that can help you 'fit almost anything' in the dishwasher
Anita Birges was about to resort to buying smaller plates when they wouldn't fit in her dishwasher until she was taught a game-changing hack.
A shop assistant gave her the tip that in many dishwashers the top shelf can be adjusted in height to be either lower or higher than it generally sits.
Now the professional organiser is paying it forward by sharing the trick with her followers in a video tutorial on Instagram.

"My secret to fitting almost anything in your dishwasher is this," she captioned her reel.
"Not only is this a great solution for enabling you to wash larger dishes in your dishwasher on the bottom rack, it will also make room for things like tall glasses and thermoses on the top when needed. As well as preventing things from getting damaged from being shoved into a too short rack."

It takes only a few minutes to adjust the top rack of your dishwasher, if your model has this function.
To do this, Birges explained you need to unclip the rails on both sides of the rack and then lift the rack up and slot the bottom set of wheels into the rails.
"Other dishwashers may have an adjustment handle or lever, but almost all of them have this option," she said.

She added that many dishwasher brands have their own tutorial videos on how to do this if you want to know the specifics of the hack for a particular model.
Birges' followers loved the tip with one even calling it "life changing", while another said it "saved" her new dishwasher, which she was "hating".
There was even a bonus tip in the comments section, which the professional organiser shared when a one person said the hack "wasn't so good when you have a stupid cutlery tray on top".
"You can actually remove that cutlery tray altogether I believe," Birges responded.
