How a couple transformed a dated room into a stylish space using only paint
A TikToker has proven you don't need to do a full-room renovation to completely transform a space with their impressive "one and only DIY project".
Cyleena shared a before and after look at her living room transformation in a video on her TikTok channel.

The room looked dated with dark wood panelling all over the walls and a dark timber built-in cabinet on one wall.

To give the space a fresh look, Cyleena and her husband painted the wooden wall panelling white and the cabinet blue.
This simple change had a dramatic impact on the look of the space, making it not just stylish and modern, but also light and bright.

Cyleena's TikTok followers were impressed by the painting update.
"I normally hate to see wood painted but you won me over with this," one said.
"The whole room looks so bright and happy," another said.
"I needed to see this right now! You convinced me that we should paint our wood panel walls," a woman wrote.

However, some thought Cyleena also needed to remove the scallop detailing on the cabinet to fully transform the space.
"Awesome, remove the scallops it will really update the room," a woman suggested.
"Ugh definitely want to eventually," Cyleena responded.

The comment proved controversial though, with some viewers fans of the scalloping.
"I love the scallops! Gives character!!" one posted.
"I love the scallops. Painting it makes it modern but keeping the scallops keeps the craftsmanship and character of the woodwork!" a viewer said.
"Noooo!!!! Please keep the scallops!!" another wrote.

Regardless of whether the scallops stay or go, the transformation highlights just how much impact paint can have on a room.
It's also budget-friendly, doesn't require power tools and is relatively easy to do.
And the best thing about paint is that if you don't like it or feel like changing it down the track, all you need to do is simply paint over it.
