How to clean household items with lemon and baking soda

We all deserve a clean space, but using chemicals to clean may not be what everyone wants.

Luckily, you can find all you need to give your home a good scrub in your kitchen and pantry!

Stovetops

Flat electric stovetops can easily get messy, but luckily they are also easy to clean.

Simply sprinkle some baking soda and juice from half a lemon on top of the (cooled) surface, then use the lemon to scrub the stains and gunk off to make the stovetop shine!

Stainless steel

The acidic combination is also ideal for use on stainless steel surfaces. Not much elbow grease is required to see your face in the reflection!

Pots and pans

Stuck grease from pots and pans will slide right out with a combination of lemon slices, baking soda and vinegar.

Simply dump them into the required vessel, bring to a boil, and dump out the mixture once it's finished boiling. You'll be left with a perfectly clean and sanitised pot or pan, ready for cooking your next meal.

Sanitise your wooden cutting board with a combination of lemon juice and baking soda (or salt, as is shown in the video, though baking soda is stronger). All you have to do is sprinkle the baking soda on, add some lemon juice from half a lemon, and use the lemon to scrub at the surface until the stains disappear or until satisfied with the result.

Showerheads

Other combinations of household acids that have proven useful include lemon juice and vinegar. placing lemon slices and vinegar in a zip-lock bag and tying it around your showerhead, completely submerging it in the mixture, will help to descale it without the need for harsh chemicals.

Drains

A clogged drain can be a nightmare to fix, but your first attempt should be the natural combination of baking soda, and vinegar.

Let it sit for five minutes before pouring some hot water in the hole and the acid will likely have broken down the substance that was blocking the drain, also sanitising it in the process!
