The surprising $12 supermarket buy that transforms cloudy showers back to sparkling

Cloudy, soap scum covered shower glass is one of the most common cleaning frustrations people have.

The search for something that brings dirty glass back to sparkling could finally be over, with an unlikely product shown to work wonders.

A cleaner who goes by the name The Amateur Cleaner on TikTok shared what she calls a "housekeeper tip" to use rinse aid, which is designed for use in the dishwasher.

"You can use Finish to remove soap scum on shower doors," she said in a video.

The cleaner then applied the rinse aid directly to a microfibre cloth and wiped the cloth back and forth over the shower door.

The rinse aid quickly cut through the soap scum to reveal crystal clear glass.

While Finish Rinse Aid costs $12 for a 500ml bottle at Coles and Woolworths, given all rinse aid is designed to make glassware shine (when cleaned in the dishwasher) it's likely that whatever rinse aid fits your budget will do the job.

In response to the rinse aid tip from The Amateur Cleaner, TikTok users shared their own favourite hacks for cleaning shower glass.

"Magic Eraser works wonders," one said.

"Mix vinegar, water and dish soap for cleaning glass door! It's the best," commented a TikToker.

"Pink bathroom cleaner from Bunnings and Magic Eraser. Brand new," another said.

The rinse aid cleaning hack also left people wondering what else the product might clean with suggestions including car headlights and mirrors.

According to The Amateur Cleaner, another way to use rinse aid outside the dishwasher is to remove water marks on stainless steel.

For that purpose she squirted a little rinse aid on paper towel and then wiped the marks off her fridge.

Another person in the comments section also recommended rinse aid for stainless steel sinks.

Though the hack appears to work well in the video, it's always recommended to do a patch test in a small area when trying any cleaning product on something it's not designed for. It's also a good idea to read the instructions on the packaging for any surface the product can't be used on.
