Garment steamers have become popular gadgets in the home for a quick and easy way to remove creases from clothes without the hassle of ironing.

But even though they're designed for that purpose, it turns out there are plenty of other tasks they're handy for.

According to Aussie home hacks queen Chantel Mila Ibbotson there are at least five more ways you could be using a garment steamer to help with cleaning.

She shared her favourite hacks for the Bunnings device in a video on her Instagram and TikTok channels.

The first hack the Melbourne mum mentions is using the garment steamer on curtains to deodorise them.

This removes odours easily without having to put curtains in the wash, which is a task most of us forget or neglect to do anyway.

Ibbotson also recommends using the garment steamer on bed linen, but not just to remove creases to make your quilt cover look smooth, she said it also helps to get rid of dust mites.

Her third hack is one you probably haven't thought of because it has nothing to do with fabric and involves cleaning a difficult spot in the kitchen.

"It also melts through baked on grease on your stovetop making cleaning it so easy," she said.

In the video Ibbotson also said garment steamers can help loosen grime on mirrors to help give a streak-free finish when cleaning.

And her final hack might mean we never get annoyed by removing a label from a product again.

"Remove hard-to-peel stickers by steaming them before peeling them off," she said.

The garment steamer cleaning hacks were a hit with Ibbotson's followers.

"Need this in my life asap," one said.

Wow! Never thought to do that!," a woman commented.

"This is the best hack!" another said.

There was also a suggestion for another way to use the garment steamer, after a woman asked if the steamer could be used on the couch.

Ibbotson replied that it likely could be used for that purpose, which a different follower backed up with some good advice.

"if nothing else it will deodorise the material but try it on an inconspicuous area first!" they said.
