The everyday food item that provides the ultimate cleaning hack for getting stains out of coffee mugs

Buy a white coffee mug they said; it'll be fun, they said.

And sure, the classic white coffee cup looks chic in the kitchen and is a cupboard staple – but we all know how sometimes they can be a little difficult to clean.

Now, while we know things like eucapltyptus oil can be good for cleaning around the house, another item is surprisingly the best for stained coffee cups: Lemons!

And, no doubt, you have a few odd lemons laying around somewhere.

Cleaners at Merry Maids, according to Express UK, have agreed lemons have "cleaning powers" to remove those pesky stains.

The publication reports that all you need to do to fix a stained coffee mug is to let lemon juice soak in the cup for up to 15 minutes and give it a scrub with a microfibre cloth.

If stains are really bad, you can a touch of salt to the lemon juice.

Make sure you use warm water as well. You can repeat the process until your cups are back to their original pearly-white state.

The acidity in the lemon is the fruit's super power.
