'Safety risk': Expert slams viral TikTok microwave cleaning hack
Experts have slammed a new hack that suggests removing a glass panel from a microwave door makes it easier to clean the appliance.
A TikTok of a woman discovering she can slide the sheet of glass out of her microwave to clean the grime off of the appliances has gone viral with 6.4 million views.
Despite its popularity on social media, this 'hack' is not recommended by cleaning experts, who have warned that it is actually unsafe.

Even though grease and discolouration building up between the glass sheets of a microwave door can be frustrating, a Choice appliance expert says it isn't worth trying to remove it to clean it.
"Removing a microwave door or glass is definitely not recommended. We have not come across any microwave manufacturer that suggests this,' Fiona Mair, Home Economist and Test Coordinator at Choice, tells 9honey.

"Removing the glass could pose a safety risk. Behind the front glass, in between the inner sheet of glass, is a protective grid that stops the glass from absorbing the microwaves.
"This also assists in the microwaves to bounce back into the food that is heating. If the glass is removed and the glass is broken, it will be difficult to replace this part," she adds.
As microwaves use radiation, keeping the appliance intact is critical for your safety.
Mair also says that removing microwave glass can have financial impacts: "Additionally, removing the glass can void the warranty.

"There is no need to remove the front glass to clean as there should be no crevices or gaps where spills or crumbs could fall into.
"We have noticed that some microwaves can have condensation build up between the glass. If this persists and doesn't disappear then you will need to contact the manufacturer."
Instead, the microwave door can be wiped down from the inside and outside, which should leave the appliance sparkling without requiring the removal of any glass.
