Aussies' most hated room of the house to clean revealed

Cleaning is one of those things a lot of us don't like doing, but we have to do it to keep our home hygienic and looking good.

One way to make it easier is to break it down by room and tackle one space at a time, some even dedicate a particular day to a room. Others, meanwhile try to get all their cleaning done in one day.

Regardless of how you've set up your cleaning routine, there's probably a room or rooms that you hate cleaning and try to put off as long as possible.

To find out exactly what spaces people would rather not clean, we asked Australians in an exclusive Nine.com.au poll what their least favourite room of the house to clean is.

And one room is clearly hated above all others.

The clear winner in the survey was the bathroom with a huge 52 per cent of people naming it as their least favourite to clean.

It's not surprising the bathroom is so disliked as it can be such a time-consuming and frustrating space to clean.

Often there's more to do than just dusting and disinfecting surfaces, with a tiled floor that needs mopping, grout that gets mouldy and discoloured, and shower screens that look foggy.

"My least favourite room to clean in the house is the bathroom, but the rest of the house is a close second," joked one person who did the survey.

For some people their bathroom cleaning includes the toilet, which can often be a bit gross to tackle.

The second least favourite room to clean was a tie between the toilet – for those who have one separate to their bathroom – and the kitchen with 13 per cent each.

While spaces like the bathroom and toilet can get away with a clean every few days to once a week, the kitchen needs some level of cleaning daily.

Daily kitchen cleaning usually involves the dishes and wiping the bench, though some people also sweep or vacuum daily.

Deep kitchen cleans, which involve cleaning out the fridge and pantry and cleaning the oven, are done less often but can still be quite tiring to do.

The third least favourite room to clean was the bedroom with seven per cent naming this spot as the one they prefer not to clean.

This may be why some people change their sheets less often than the recommend weekly or fortnightly.

It likely also involves making the bed, which some people do as soon as they get up, while others don't see the point in doing since they're going to mess it up again that night.

Rounding out the list of rooms, four per cent said their least favourite to clean is the living room and another four per cent said the laundry.

Regardless of which room you most despise cleaning, there is always a hack or tip that can make it easier.

Doing quick chores straight away, like putting away clutter, can make a room feel tidier instantly and leave less to clean later.

Putting on music or setting a timer and seeing what you can tackle in 15 minutes are other ways to make cleaning a bit more fun.

As for the much-hated bathroom, hacks like popping a dish sponge with a handle that can be filled with dishwashing liquid in the shower so you can clean as you go, can really help cut down time later.
