If there’s one thing couples generally don’t want to find in their proposal pictures, it’s a photobomber.

...Unless, of course, that photobomber is a baby hippopotamus named Fiona.

Nick Kelble and Hayley Roll decided to celebrate their first anniversary together by visiting the adorable creature at Ohio’s Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.

Little did the couple know Fiona was about to insert herself into one of the biggest moments of their life - and completely snatch the limelight.

"When I turned back around, Nick was on one knee proposing."

As if that wasn’t enough of a surprise, the 10-month-old hippo swam up and positioned herself right against the glass between the couple, watching on curiously.

Hayley shared the delightful photos on Instagram, writing, “We’re so happy Fiona could be there on our special day.”

Watch: A couple's beachside proposal was accidentally caught on camera.

Judging by the look on Fiona’s face, she thoroughly approves of the union.

Fiona was the first Nile hippopotamus born at Cincinnati Zoo in 75 years and the smallest hippo ever to survive.

She arrived six weeks premature in January weighing just 29 pounds - significantly less than the average hippo weighs at birth - and required 24-hour critical care for several months.

Fiona is now happy and healthy, and has become a global social media sensation thanks to her adorable antics.

"We always kept up with her and still adore her."

Just putting it out there, Fiona would probably make a beautiful flower girl for a wedding...
