This is the worst place on your body to get a tattoo

Finger tattoos have become increasingly popular, no doubt thanks to Rihanna’s “Shhh” design and the endless inspiration to be found on Instagram.

But if you plan on getting finger ink, you should know it’s crucial to get the right kind of design, otherwise it could smudge and wear out in as little as a couple of years.

“It’s advisable to keep designs on fingers simple and bold so that they are legible as they age,” tattoo artist Jeremy Sutton from Electric Anvil Tattoo in New York told Coach.

“Because of the density of skin on fingers, ink tends to bleed out more, so the lines are less clean and crisp as they would be tattooing your wrist for example.

“However, if applied properly finger tattoos can and do last a long time.”

Sutton said the advice to keep it simple and bold applies to the hands in general, as well as the feet.

“The closer the tattoo is to the sole of the foot, such as on the side of the foot, the more friction it will be exposed to and the faster it will deteriorate.”

No matter which part of your body you get inked, making the effort to take care of the skin in that area will help to avoid discoloration and blurring of your tattoo.

“Keep the tattoo out of the sun as much as possible and wear sunscreen on your tattoo whenever you are in the sun.”

And don’t be afraid to go crazy with moisturiser (once your ink has healed, obviously).
