How to get arms like Sonia Kruger's
When I tell the girls in 9Honey team that I'm interviewing Sonia Kruger about how she keeps fit, they all want to know one thing: Ask how we can get arms like hers.
So, Sonia — how can someone get arms as toned as yours?
Nine
Kruger works out at least once a week at Bondi gym The Well with Dan Adair, a Sydney-based personal trainer renowned for delivering results. Her background in competitive dancing means she's always been fit, but the 53-year-old only recently started training in a gym to build and maintain her strength.
"As you get older you really need to do resistance training — not just women, but men too," says Kruger, mum to three-year-old Maggie. "I may have started late in life but I feel like I'll be doing it forever."
While some women are concerned weightlifting will make them bulky, Kruger's workout has been modified to avoid that.
"I told Dan I really don't want to end up with shoulders like Arnold Schwarzenegger, and he gave me a really good tip," she says. "If you keep your hands narrow your shape will end up being narrow. If you do wide exercises you'll end up with a wide shape."
Adair shared one of Kruger's resistance workouts, which finishes with a cardio session on the ski erg — a punishing machine she laughingly dubs the "ski ugh".
