Getting dressed in the dark

"The longer you keep yourself away from light, the longer you'll feel sleepy," experts explain in the video you can watch above.

It's all down to the sensitivity of our internal body clocks to light. So getting ready in the dark can signal to your body that it's still nighttime.

"Rather than feel awake, invigorated and in a good mood, you'll feel groggy out of it."

So before you do anything when you wake up, open those blinds and let the light in. Of course, if there is no sun yet then the lights will have to do.

Taking a hot shower

Sleep experts recommend saving your hot shower for the evening instead.

"Heat signals your nervous system that it's time to relax your muscles and slow your heart rate, making you feel calm and sleepy," they say.
