A nutritionist has shared her go-to trick when craving a McDonald's dessert but still wanting to keep the calories down.

Instead of ordering a normal McFlurry, Flat Out Nutrition's Abbey has another order that reduces the calories per serve by over 200.

"Have you had a big night and need something sweet to finish it off?" she writes in the caption alongside a video sharing the hack, which you can watch above.

"A normal Crème Brûlée McFlurry is 652 calories," she explains, sharing instead her DIY Crème Brûlée McFlurry order using the pie version which is only 274 calories.

"The McFlurry is not going to be something I try whilst I'm at maintenance calories. I would instead order my DIY version and still feel satisfied."

This is, of course, a handy piece of advice for those people trying to remain in a calorie deficit for fat loss, or focusing on keeping to maintenance calories.

And as Abbey explains, if it's an original McFlurry that you want, then go for it.

"Remember this is just my personal preference that aligns with my goals but you do you! There is no right or wrong... if you want to spend your calories on an entire McFlurry then LIVE YOUR LIFE!" she concludes.

The handy tip received over 500 likes.

"I really put my heart into trying to show people that they can lose weight and eat the foods they love at the same time, so hopefully it helps at least one person," she tells 9Honey.
