Train like a Cirque du Soleil acrobat

Team Coach

The most intimidating part of being an acrobat isn’t teetering several metres over an arena floor — it’s squeezing into an unforgiving spandex costume.

At least that’s the impression you get from Australian acrobats Jessica Ward and Kristi Wade, stars of Cirque du Soleil's latest production Toruk – The First Flight.

Ward spoke about her everyday diet to Coach, revealing that while she’s a firm believer in “everything in moderation”, she always has to keep in mind what she’s eating because “we live in spandex” on stage.

Inspired by James Cameron’s 2009 blockbuster Avatar, Toruk is alive with motion — demanding a huge amount of physical effort from its stars. In the video above, Ward and Wade explain how they keep their bodies in shape for the show and their go-to ways to prevent injury.

Toruk – The First Flight opens in Brisbane on October 5, before moving onto Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketek.
