In the video above, the co-host of The Nutrition Couch podcast shares some of her advice and top recommendations for busy families to eat well while still keeping your grocery bill down.

"The amount that we spend on proteins like meats, chicken and fish each week can really add up at the grocery store," Burrell says.

"You can save a lot of money by choosing some of the cheaper varieties of meats such as turkey or chicken mince, which are both incredibly lean, and can cost as little as half the amount of more premium cuts of meat."

Other budget-friendly additions to your grocery shop, according to Burrell, are a big jar of Tomato Passata, tins of lentils, chickpeas, and kidney beans and of course plenty of frozen veggies.

"Vegetables are snap frozen at the time of harvest, which means they retain all of their nutritional qualities and are maybe even higher in some nutrients," she says.

"They are extremely cost effective and not vulnerable to the seasonal price fluctuations."
