If there were ever two things we can definitely get behind, it's saving money and getting a good night's sleep.

That's exactly what one of Aldi's latest special buys promises, with a $50 smart watch going on sale tomorrow (Wednesday August 3) that includes new sleep tracking functions.

The smart watch will be available as part of the German supermarket's Bedroom Refresh Special Buys, which also include other items such as pillow mist, tea, and sleep help books.

The smart watch (which costs only $49.99) will be available in two colours – a baby blue and black.

Aside from Multi sports tracking, music playback control, bluetooth wireless technology, and message and call notifications, the watch also includes a raft of sleep-related functions.

It will monitor and track you sleep, including deep and light sleep cycle recording. You can also use a do not disturb mode, although sleep mode will start automatically.

You'll then have access to sleep quality analysis reports, which you can use to help adjust your sleep routine for better shut eye.

It comes after new findings from Australian researchers confirmed that fitness trackers, pedometers, and smart watches motivate us to exercise more and lose weight.

Researchers from the University of South Australia reviewed almost 400 studies involving 164,000 people across the world using wearable activity trackers (WATs) to monitor their physical activity.

They found wearable activity trackers encourage us to walk up to 40 minutes more each day (approximately 1800 more steps), resulting in an average 1kg weight loss over five months.
