A message to Hamish and Andy regarding 'crumpetgate'

Dear Hamish and Andy,

First of all, gusto to you both.

It’s me, the crumpet culprit. Otherwise known as Chantelle, 9honey writer and author of the 9honey Crumpet Taste Test.

After listening to your latest Hamish & Andy podcast episode where you so shrewdly accused me of 'borrowing' your idea of comparing crumpets across Australia, I have some things to say.

I'd like to start off by recognising that you boys did do the crumpet taste test first. There, I said it. That's an undeniable fact, seeing as your podcast episode was released on July 3 and our article on August 28.

But as a Queenslander relocated to New South Wales myself, I have long believed in the fact that our crumpets are simply the best in the country, and no one can take that away from us.

This is not a fluffy response. Nine

Much like sports, crumpets are something we just do better in Queensland. Always have been.

Yes, you may have been the first to take the debate to a public platform, but it's a battle that's lived in the mind of Queenslanders for years.

Sure, maybe a bit of inspiration was taken listening to podcasts during the hours-long drive from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast.

However, I do have one apology to make, and it's directly to you, Hamish.

I'm sorry you felt that we took away from your skill of noticing the fluffiness of crumpets without tasting them.

So I want to make it clear with an official statement:

"9honey recognises that Hamish Blake is 'The Guy That Does First Impressions of Crumpets and Recognises the Fluffiness Without Tasting'.

"We made a mere comparison that in no way matched up to the expertise of Mr Blake's professional observation."

Who knew a crumpet could cause so much chaos? Getty

With cancel culture run rampant these days, I never expected my downfall to be at the hands of such a fluffy and delicious breakfast food, so I hope that you accept my apology for this misunderstanding.

We merely wanted to inform the 9honey readers that yes, there is a difference between the crumpets purchased in Queensland compared to the rest of Australia.

And since you boys did not reach out to the manufacturer for an explanation behind the difference, someone had to perform their journalistic duty to the Australian public.

But we still love you guys and I hope we can move past this with no bad blood between us.

We at 9honey will continue to cover your birthday cake escapades, Hamish, as well as Lego Masters Australia. And Andy, we will continue to be avid watchers of The Hundred.

I do think an important clarification to make before I bid you farewell is that the 9honey Taste Test is a years-old tradition.

So, while I'm not saying that you ripped us off, I'm also not not saying it.
