Couple who lost unborn son in Grenfell Tower fire unveil tattoo tributes

A couple who lost their unborn son in the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy have unveiled tattoo tributes to their child.

Andreia Perestrelo and Marcio Gomes lived on the 21st floor of the West London apartment building and managed to escape the blaze that broke out on June 14, 2017.

Marcio helped guide his wife, who was seven months pregnant at the time, and their two daughters to safety.

Their dog, Lili, got lost in the confusion as the family fled, and perished.

After Andreia and her daughters were rushed to hospital, she was placed in an induced coma, which doctors hoped would save her unborn child.

Tragically, the baby was stillborn. It's believed the toxic smoke that Andreia inhaled as the family made their terrifying escape down the stairwells killed the child she was carrying.

Andreia and Marcio named their son Logan. He was the youngest victim of the Grenfell disaster, which claimed 71 lives.

The couple wanted a lasting way to remember their son and decided to get tattoos of his hand and foot prints.

They appeared on the television program Tattoo Fixers: Extreme to unveil their emotional tributes.

When Logan was born, the hospital staff were able to take a cast of his little feet and hands, which the tattoo artist incorporated in his design.

Andreia got hers across her shoulder, while Marcio decided to have the tattoo across his heart.

Speaking at the commemoration hearings at the inquiry into the Grenfell disaster, Marcio broke down as he recalled the moments after Logan was stillborn.

"I held my son in my arms," he said.

"I wished and prayed that he would just open his eyes, make a sound."

When Andrei woke from her coma, she and her husband were able to hold their son.

"At that moment it felt like our hearts had broken," he said.
