Grandfather's sweet letter leaves Twitter in tears: 'tell them you love them every chance you get!'

Get the tissues out, because this Twitter post is certainly a tearjerker.

US man Ethan Anderson shared photos of a bucket of free baseballs his grandfather left outside the batting cages where they used to go together, along with a note.

"I'm not crying, you're crying," he said in his caption — and yes, we truly are.

In the note, Anderson's grandfather said the baseballs were free and that he hoped someone could use them.

"I found them cleaning out my garage. I pitched them to my son and grandson for countless rounds," he wrote, explaining his son, now 46 and grandson, now 23, no longer participate in their wholesome ritual.

"I am 72 and what I won't give to pitch a couple of buckets to them, but they have both moved away," he added.

"If you are a father, cherish these times. You won't believe how quickly they will be gone."

He also urges other parents and grandparents to enjoy special moments with their children, writing, "Give them a hug and tell them you love them every chance you get!"

The heartwarming note, signed off with a "god bless", has been shared over 29,000 times.

Clearly, the grandfather's letter struck a special chord with Twitter users, who have applauded the man's kind actions.

"The only thing my dad wants on Father's Day is to play catch with me and my brother," shared one person.

"Omg this is heart-breaking as I have a bucket of baseballs that I pitched to my son. I'm going to keep it for him to use for his kids. Thank u for sharing this-it really hit home," wrote another.

Anderson confirmed in a follow-up tweet that he would be "going to the cages soon" with his grandfather.
