Weddings are almost always a heartstring-tweaking affair, with the biggest displays of emotion typically coming from the couple tying the knot.

However, when high school sweethearts Jenni and Timmy Gibson married last month, it was their six-year-old daughter's reaction that really delivered the "feels".

The Iowa couple met as 16-year-olds, and welcomed their first child, daughter Riley, a year later.

From the moment she arrived at the venue, photographer Missie Lafrenz could tell how important the day would be for the kids, particularly the two eldest - Riley, eight, and Lexi, six.

"The two older girls were in awe of their mum and just kept hugging her," Missie tells 9Honey.

Sharing her story with Love What Matters, bride Jenni said that in the lead-up to the wedding, little Lexi had been particularly excited and involved herself in all the preparations.

"She was there to tell me the flowers I wanted were beautiful, to crying with my mum when seeing me in the dress I picked out," she tells the website.

"I knew this day was important to her! But I wouldn’t realise just how important until I got my wedding photos back."

"[Lexi] was wiping my tears and telling me how beautiful I was and how much I mean to her and that I’m her 'favourite, only 'Mummy', as she says," the mum of three says.

"She couldn’t stop staring at me and telling my how pretty I looked."

During the ceremony, Missie says she was conscious of capturing the various details the bride and groom don't always get to see.

So, when Lexi began sobbing with joy as her mum read out her vows to her dad, the photographer's camera was ready.

"Jenni would have missed this moment if I didn't capture it," Missie tells 9Honey.

"And I just love the raw emotion coming from her, even though it took everything in me not to pick her up and hug her!"

Although mum Jenni couldn't see the six-year-old's face during the ceremony, she could hear guests whispering about how sweet it was that Lexi was crying.

"After wiping my tears I asked her, ‘Lexi, why were you crying in this picture?’ She responded, ‘Mum, it was because everything was just so beautiful’," Jenni tells Love What Matters.

"That pure emotion on Lexi’s face is proof of how important it was to her for her Mummy and Daddy to finally get married after all these years."
