Jayme Closs' close friend speaks out about her kidnapping ordeal

A close friend of kidnapped teenager Jayme Closs has revealed what the teen’s life has been like since she escaped from the remote cabin where she’d been held captive.

Closs, 13, was reported missing in October 2018 after her parents were discovered murdered in their family home in Wisconsin, USA.

On January 10, four months later, the teenager managed to escape the Douglas County house she’d been confined in and has since been in the care of family and friends.

A close friend of the Closs family has now spoken about the ordeal, saying she feels Closs is “healing”.

“I don't think any of us can really know what she's going through, but I think that if she has to be with a group of people that will love her and support her for the rest of her life, she's in the perfect family to do that,” Michelle Saffert told CBS News.

“I have no doubt that she's going to make it. I have no doubt in my mind at all. The strong little fighter she is.”

This week, Closs was pictured smiling and enjoying a steak dinner with her grandfather in a Facebook post.

“We’re so blessed!!! We had to share!!” the photo was captioned.

Closs has told police that on the night she was abducted, she heard her dog barking at a stranger and went to wake up her parents. Her mother, Denise, took her into a bathroom and locked the door, while her father, James, went down to investigate.

After a single shot rang out, the teenager said she knew that her father had been killed.

When the intruder broke through the bathroom door, he taped her legs and arms together and shot her mother, before abducting Jayme and keeping her in captivity.

Jake Patterson, 21, has charged with both murders and the abduction of Closs, and will appear in court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
