French First Lady opens up about what life is like for Melania Trump

French First Lady Brigitte Macron has shared her insights on the life of Melania Trump.

Donald and Melania Trump welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife to the White House and the trip gave Brigitte a real insight into difference between her world and Melania’s.

Speaking told Le Monde, as translated by The Guardian, Brigitte explained that security is so tight around the First Lady that she is often not allowed to do seemingly simple tasks.

“The First Lady cannot do anything,” she explained. “She can’t even open a window at the White House.”

“She can’t go outside. She’s much more constrained than I am. I go out every day in Paris.”

Macron added that while Melania has to restrict what she says due to media scrutiny, behind closed doors the first lady is “kind, charming, intelligent and very open".

“Everything is interpreted, over-interpreted. She’s someone who has a strong personality, but works hard to hide it,” she explained. “She laughs very easily, at everything, but shows it less than I do.”

This isn’t the first time restrictions in the life of a First Lady have been spoken about in public.

Michelle Obama once said that she was most excited to “open a window” after her time in the White House was over.

“I can’t open my windows,” she told Stephen Colbert. “One day as a treat, my lead agent let me have the windows open on the way to Camp David. It was like five minutes out, and he was like, ‘The windows open. Enjoy it!’ I was like, ‘Thanks, Alan.’”

Sounds like we've been taking opening the window for granted!
