No longer $11: Woolworths 'reluctantly' confirms their iconic roast chickens will now cost you more
There's no such thing as a free lunch, something supermarket giant Woolworths has "reluctantly" confirmed in bad news for lovers of their classic roast chook.
It's no longer $11.
For the first time since February 2022, the iconic Aussie dinner staple has been subject to a price raise, by a whopping whole dollar.

The bachelor's handbag is now going to set you back $12, a true testament to the curse of the cost-of-living crisis.
"At Woolworths, we understand that every dollar counts and work hard to provide value for customers every time they shop with us while balancing the needs of our suppliers," a spokesperson for Woolworths said in a statement to 9Honey Kitchen.

"For the first time since February 2022, we reluctantly increased the price of our roast chickens by $1 due to an increase in input costs.
"We still believe our delicious hot roast chooks provide excellent value whether it's for a dinner for the family or to share at a picnic with friends," the statement concluded.

Coles roast chickens, meanwhile, are currently still at a price tag of $11.
Both grocery chains initially had the chooks costing customers $11, then the competitors slashed both their prices to $8 in 2015.
But it was all over by 2018, with both Woolworths and Coles upping the price tag by $1 – to a total of $9 – after three years of a dream that ultimately proved too good to be true.
And so we beat on, boats against the current.
