Woman's drunken Subway order causes total Twitter meltdown

Drunk food cravings come in all manner of gloriously greasy guises — but for one woman, it just happens to come in the form of a dry-looking olive, cucumber and cheese sandwich.

London-based Anna James' very first time at Subway landed the vegetarian at the centre of a Twitter furore.

The 20-year-old's late-night drunken sandwich order was so downright bizarre, that the Subway worker himself couldn't resist documenting it for the 'gram.

When the veggo tweeted about her first ever Subway order, the Internet reacted strongly.

Posting a picture of the staff member mid-snap, Anna wrote: "first time in subway and the worker took a picture of my order am I doing this wrong".

Technically, there is no wrong filling when it comes to the fast food chain's smorgasbord of sanga toppings, so it's almost impressive that Anna's unique late-night appetite provoked such outrage.

The post rapidly clocked up tens of thousands of retweets and hundreds of comments, mostly from those who felt she'd violated some sort of sacred sandwich order.

Not everyone thought the sandwich was a monstrosity, with some liberal-minded Twitter users coming to the defense of Anna and her sandwich.

And not one to miss a prime PR opportunity, even Subway weighed in.

Anna posted an update saying she was now online buddies with the Subway worker who dissed her sandwich.

"We're insta mutuals now," she captioned the screenshot of the man's Insta-stories critique.

However, the first-time Subway customer didn't seem too fussed by sandwich criticism, proving she's more than capable of handling online haters. Go girl.
