Bizarre ingredient people are mixing into their wine: 'Not like anything I've ever tasted'

People will really do anything to make a cheap bottle of wine just a tiny bit tastier.

While we've all heard of mixing Coke with red wine or lemonade with white, it seems the latest trend taking over the "I'm trying to make my cheap wine tastier" side of the internet is Gatorwine.

Now, if you're not quite sure what that is, neither were we until about 10 minutes ago.

Turns out people are mixing cheap red wine with light blue Gatorade, and they're actually enjoying it.

Sommelier and TikToker, Prescott Vanmeyer – otherwise known as unemployedwineguy – decided to give the trend a go after follower after follower requested he try it.

The recipe is simple, it's equal parts cheap red wine and light blue Gatorade.

"I don't know anything going into this, other than what my imagination tells me it might taste like," Vanmeyer said before taking a sip of the drink, then proceeding to down it all in one gulp.

"I will say, the light blue Gatorade objectively disappears," he said when describing the flavour, adding the Gatorade dims the boldness of the red wine.

"That kind of tasted like a very subtle table wine, it wasn't unpleasant," Vanmeyer concluded.

He then went on to taste the concoction with different flavours of Gatorade, trying the white and the purple before declaring that it does indeed need to be the light blue Gatorade for the flavours to work.

YouTuber Andrew Rea - otherwise known as Binging with Babish - also gave the mix a go, describing it as "not like anything I've ever tasted."

Rea added that he could "drink that on the rocks" noting that it has a similar kind of taste to Sangria.

Now, it's unclear why the trend started. Some say they do it for the flavour while others say its for the added electrolytes. Whatever the reason, it seems like we might just have to give it a go.
