'I'm calling the police': Viral 'popcorn salad' horrifies Twitter

A TV food presenter is facing the wrath of the Twitterverse after her recipe for popcorn salad went viral for all the wrong reasons.

The Food Network's Molly Yeh came under fire after footage of her making an unusual favourite — 'Crunchy Snap Pea Popcorn Salad' — racked up millions of views, horrifying food lovers.

More than 2.8 million tuned in to see the presenter team popcorn with the unholy combination of carrots, shallots, celery, watercress and a creamy dressing made from mayonnaise, sour cream, cider vinegar, sugar and Dijon mustard.

"The texture of the popcorn in the salad is so weirdly good, I just can't get enough of it," Yeh says in the clip.

The recipe left many Twitter users stunned and appalled, with one critic dubbing the soggy popcorn salad a "crime against humanity".

"People really should not post videos of their crimes on social media," one critic wrote.

"I'm calling the police," another viewer agreed.

Others were in disbelief the recipe tutorial was created in earnest.

"This has to be a SNL skit," one critic wrote.

"My jaw is still dropped...just so many things wrong with this," another wrote.

"Yes.. because soggy popcorn topped with the sh-----st part of celery is totally what I want," another shocked viewer responded.

One commentator confirmed the segment was indeed real: "My wife watches her show ALL the time. Most of the stuff she makes looks delicious, but she just desecrated that popcorn."
