Two-ingredient buttercream recipe stuns Tiktok

'Tis the season of biscuits, cakes and frosting. Food gifts feature large for the festive season, and bakers everywhere are vying to create epic centrepieces.

While the bakers among us are having a wonderful time, plenty of people just don't have the practice or the patience to whip up stunning, perfectly-frosted confectionary. Though we might desperately want to, unless we are practiced with icing, it can be difficult to master a good, versatile frosting.

So, we were thrilled when we came across TikToker @cakesbymarian (Marian Sarkisian) and her trick for two-ingredient buttercream frosting that works every time. The baker shared her trick with her 319,000 followers in October, and since then it has just kept on gaining views, likes and shares as people discover her magic trick.

In the clip (see it above or find the full clip here), the baker whips one cup of softened butter with a 14oz can (that's a 395g tin here in Australia) of sweetened condensed milk until it's pale, light and fluffy. She whips the butter first, then adds the sweetened condensed milk in a drizzle and keeps whipping in her stand mixer until it's soft and pillowy and ready for piping.

In the clip she flavours it right at the end with a little vanilla essence, but you can swap this out for any other flavour and even colour it with a little food colouring if needed. We're imagining a touch of caramel flavour and a little yellow colouring, or peppermint and a touch of green.

Either way, it's the easiest buttercream frosting we've ever seen; the recipe usually calls for incorporating a lot of powdered sugar (which can be a mess) as well as milk.

It seems fans are finding this recipe super useful too, with over 212,000 likes and comments ranging from, "I love this! Hate using all of that white powdered sugar" to, "If you put a teaspoon of instant coffee [it] is delicious" and, "Wow! This is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing."

According to Marian the recipe is not quite as tough as American buttercream, but it is a lovely consistency to work with and firms up beautifully in the fridge.
