Today hosts floored by unusual award-winning ice-cream flavour
'A cheese plate in an ice-cream'.
Adelaide-based gelateria, 48 Flavours, just picked up the prestigious People's Choice award for one of their signature gelato flavours at the Gelato World Tour in Italy.
The dessert creative behind the unusual winning flavour, Brian O'Donnell, stopped into the Today studio to discuss (and taste) all things gelato – and it's safe to say the hosts were blown away.
The world-first gelato combination featuring Gorgonzola cheese (no, really), pear, organic fig and roasted walnuts, and which Lisa Wilkinson describes as "a cheese plate in an ice-cream", initially confused judges, O'Donnell admitted. That is, until they tried it.
"That is absolutely the best ice-cream I have ever tasted," Lisa says after savouring a spoonful, with Karl Stefanovic quickly agreeing, "me too".
However, not all O'Connell's flavours go down a treat with our Today tasters. Watch the segment above to see what happens when Lisa is tricked into sampling one of the more polarising Asiatic flavours.
