Sydney diner's Mutant Burger cut open to reveal mesmerising surprise

Katherine Scott

Once again, the rainbow food trend defies nature and food conventions with a sci-fi coloured treat.

In time for Mutant Day on Wednesday September 28, 2016 (apparently a thing?), Sydney burger Mecca Ribs & Burgers have dropped their limited edition Mutant Burger with a twist—and it's a goodie.

The only catch is you've got to purchase the curiously titled lunch item and take a bite to see where exactly the mutant reference comes from—or you could just watch the video we shot above.

We can tell you this—despite what you may discover inside, flavour-wise the burger doesn't taste weird or mutant-esque, featuring triple chilli, fried chicken, lettuce and blue cheese and held together by a bespoke bun.

Deliveroo will be delivering the Mutant Burgers across all their available regions for the duration of the promotion.

Created in conjunction with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment to coincide with the release of X-Men: Apocalypse on Blu-ray, the other-worldly creation has secured itself a spot amongst our gallery of rainbow food abominations—and quite frankly, it's one of the saner menu items of the bunch.

The burger will be available for the next few days or until sold out.
