There's no denying breakfast is an important meal, but on the average day, you might not necessarily wake up filled with excitement to eat it.

Well, this recipe is about to change that.

Gone are the days of relegating fruit crumble to the "dessert only" basket – as Jane de Graaff demonstrates, it's also a perfect brekky meal.

Jane de Graaff's Sultana Bran crumble

You can serve it hot, or it reheats beautifully.

Jane's version of the dish sees a delicious combination of pears and berries topped with an irresistible crumble featuring Kellogg's Sultana Bran as the main star.

It's cereal and fruit like you've never thought to prepare it before.

Serves: 4

Topping:

3 cups Sultana Bran®
1/4 cup plain flour
2 Tbls honey
1 Tbls butter, melted (+ extra to grease pan)

Filling:

6 firm pears (or 6 apples), cored and diced, but not skinned
400g frozen mixed berries
1 Tbls plain flour
1 Tbls honey
Juice of 1 lemon + zest
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg

METHOD:

Brush a baking dish with melted butter to grease.

Dice your pears and toss them together in a bowl with the mixed berries, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, honey, lemon juice and lemon zest. The flour will help the fruit sauce thicken a little during baking.

Pour into the baking dish.

In the same bowl, lightly crush the Sultana Bran and mix in flour. Melt together butter and honey, pour it over the Sultana Bran and mix through to combine.

Spread the topping over the fruit mix, cover with foil and bake at 180C for 20mins until bubbling. Uncover and continue to cook for 10 minutes or until topping crisps up.

Serve warm with Greek yoghurt.
