Slow-motion popcorn is pure magic

Have you ever wondered what popcorn might look like bursting into life in slow motion?

No, neither have we. But when we came across the above video of exactly that by Warped Perception, we couldn't believe we hadn't seen this beautiful display—or wondered what it might look like—sooner.

There's just something so extravagant (and a little bit sexy) about the slow-motion clip of a single kernel suddenly flowering into a fluffy, perfect morsel that is mesmerising to watch.

The video was shot with an ultra-slow-motion camera, slowing the process down to 30,000 frames per second, showing us that magic popping moment in all its sparkling glory. And it's just what the guys at WP do. Check out their YouTube channel for videos of slow motion mousetraps decapitating hot dogs, beer bottles exploding and crystal balls being crushed.   

Or simply get lost in the beauty of the popcorn video, like we did.   

The magic of popping corn in a hot pan never ceases to amaze 9Kitchen, especially when that toasty smell fills the air. But never had we dreamed that seeing the process as a single grain reacting to heat could be so hypnotic.
