Sydney restaurant bans iPhones and iPads

A Sydney restaurant has joined a global trend to ban electronic devices at the table.

Except they’ve taken it to the next level, and banned board games, building blocks and colouring books.

Pazar Food Collective, a Turkish-Mexican restaurant in Canterbury have decided that it’s time for families to engage with their children and immerse themselves in the dining experience.

The establishment took to their Facebook page to explain their choice to have customers surrender their electronics.

“Engage with your kids and each other” the post begun.

“Too often has been the case over recent years we are witnessing a disconnect with not only some (not all!) parents and their children when dining but also a disconnect with children and the food”.

“The decision is easy for us because it makes us sad when we see a disconnect from children and adults and at times a total disrespect of comfort and needs of the other diners” the post continued.

We’ve seen this before with UK restaurant chain Frankie and Benny’s being the first to implement the ban in November when they challenged parents to drop the devices and engage with their children at meal time.

The restaurant went as far as to offer free meals for kids if devices were kept in boxes during meals.

Pazar’s ban will apply to adults as well as children.

We’ll leave it to parents everywhere to decide whether this is something they are ready to embrace.
