Red Rooster are slinging free hot chips this weekend, no strings attached

Aussie fast food franchise Red Rooster will be "shouting" customers free hot chips to celebrate 2020's rare "leap day" this Saturday February 29.

We're not sure why the chicken chain has chosen to observe this somewhat unremarkable extra day in the calendar (a "leap day" only occurs once every four years), but frankly we approve, because free chips.

Best of all, there's no catch — you just turn up, order your free regular chips, "no questions asked", according to a Red Rooster spokesperson.

The company said the one-off giveaway is a chance for them to thank customers.

"In 2020 we all get an extra day. So, head into any Red Rooster restaurant across Australia, this Saturday, February 29th and you will get free regular chips," a spokesperson said.

"We are forever grateful for our fans and customers who can't get enough of these magical morsels of chicken salty bliss.

"We want to give back to all of them (and the rest of Australia too) with a little surprise and delight.

"We want to shout them free reg chips to celebrate the extra day in 2020! Leap Day Chip Day!"

The giveaway will be available at Red Rooster outlets across Australia.

But best get in early, if a recent viral chip-ranking list is anything to go by.

Last December, Australia's self-proclaimed "List King" Bruno Bouchet, known for his rankings of iconic food items and confectionery, ranked Australia's best and worst hot chips, with Red Rooster's golden frites placing in the coveted "Royalty Tier" — second only to "God Tier".
