Prison guard fired for posing as cop for McDonald's discount

A Sydney prison guard has been fired after impersonating a police officer to get a discount on his McDonald’s meal.

Lawrence O’Driscoll-Faitaua, 43, pleaded guilty in Waverley Local Court after he was found to be posing as a police officer to obtain a $10.53 discount, according to documents provided to News.com.au.

The Sydney man worked as a casual guard at the Sydney Police centre in Surry Hills, and admitted to displaying his ID reading “NSW Police-External Contractor” to drive-through staff at McDonald’s Kingsford.

Mr Faitaua was given a half-price discount for a Big Mac and 24 chicken nuggets after flashing the ID.

Staff subsequently photographed the bank card he used to pay and reported the incident to the Eastern Beaches Local Area Command.

The Daily Telegraph reported the Magistrate called him “foolish” for risking his job to get a small fast food discount. 

“You’ve got to understand it’s a fine line that people step when they start flashing these things for different purposes and then the next thing and the next thing and it becomes more serious,” she said.

“It’s very, very foolish action that finds you in this situation… you told officers that it was something you’ve been told about by work colleagues. The issue is of course you stand alone and (have to) face the consequences of your actions.”

A Corrective Services spokesperson confirmed Mr Faitaua was fired from his job and granted a section 10 non-conviction in court.
