Perth chef's two-ingredient Nutella cake causes online frenzy

If ever a silver lining were to emerge from this pandemic, it has appeared in the form of a two-ingredient, indulgent cake recipe.

In particular, Rob Nixon's Nutella variety.

The Perth-based chef shared his "cheap, easy and delicious" recipe in a TikTok video that has left social media users across the country salivating.

Pairing a jar of Nutella with eight eggs, the secret ingredient to the scrumptious dessert is affordability and convenience.

With a recipe simple enough to film in under a minute on the streaming platform, the two-ingredient cake has captured the culinary curiosity of pandemic panic-bakers and household chefs alike.

Nixon documented the cooking process, explaining that after preheating the oven to 180 degree, all that was required was to beat the eggs into a silky consistency and drizzle in half a jar's worth of the heavenly hazelnut spread.

He recommended ensuring the Nutella was room temperature to make mixing easier, and as his video showed, it also makes the end result more mouth-watering.

While Nixon used an electric mixer, some users have embraced the wooden spoon and combined the mixture the old fashioned way.

Once the two ingredients are mixed together, a foam should form in the liquid batter.

Requiring 40 minutes of baking time, Nixon recommended using a wooden stick to check the gooey consistency of the cake half an hour in.

Whether decorating the cake with icing sugar and strawberries — Nixon's signature pairing — or relishing in the molten chocolate delight as it is, the simple cake is best enjoyed within moments of it coming out of the oven.

Nixon regularly shares easy kitchen hack videos to the more than 1.2 million subscribers of his YouTube channel, Nicko's Kitchen.

Viewers labelled the chef's two-ingredient creation a "Nutella omelette" 

"This looks so good - trying tonight," one person said.

"We need to make this," multiple declared.

The cheap recipe costs under $10, depending on the variety of eggs you use.
