'They're exactly the same': Aldi releases 'identical' dupe of iconic UK treat

British expats are going to be delighted to hear Aldi Australia has released a dupe for a cult favourite treat.

A sweet basically identical to Percy Pigs has arrived on Aussie shelves!

Even if you're not from the UK, you surely would know someone who has visited the nation and came back home with several bags of the delicious sweet.

But Aussies will no longer have to fork out thousands of dollars for a round trip to the UK with Katja's Biggetjes now available at Aldi stores nationwide.

The Dutch candy is a "cherry flavoured pig-shaped" gummy, with even the biggest Percy Pig fans saying they can't taste the difference.

Some even claim the sweets are the same as Percy Pigs, simply repackaged.

Now, if you don't know what a Percy Pig is, you're probably wondering why we're kicking up such a fuss over this.

So, we asked our resident British team member to give us a bit of an overview of just how big a deal Percy Pigs actually are.

"Percy Pigs are a lolly from upmarket supermarket Marks and Spencer in the UK. There are so many spin-offs, but the original is the plain pink ones," she explains.

"They have become very popular. Many Brits bring them back to Australia when they visit, it has become a must-do!

"They are chewy and very moreish. I tried these Aldi ones a few years ago and I am sure I read they're exactly the same!"

Clearly, these treats are an absolute hit.

They are a bit on the pricier side at $7.99 a bag, but when you consider the fact you're getting half a kilo of a lolly people usually fly to the other side of the world for, it's not that bad.

We don't know exactly how long the Katja Biggetjes are going to be available at Aldi stores, but we do know it's likely to be a limited release.
