Man leaves $2000 tip for staff at Chicago restaurant

While most diners typically leave a small tip at the end of a meal, one man decided to tip substantially more at Boka restaurant in Chicago.

Staff members were blown away when a customer left a $2000 tip on a meal that was $769.

Evidently this patron felt that a normal tip was insufficient to express gratitude for the food and high class service he was presented with.

The man was identified as “Mike” and he tipped $300 before heading into the kitchen and personally offering each staff member a $100 bill.

“It was definitely a rare experience that I think everybody was happy to be a part of,” sous chef Brianna Meyers told Chicago Tribune.

“I’ve never seen anything like that before”.

Boka is known for being an upscale restaurant with one Michelin star, but this kind stranger has put them on the map.

"It was amazing to have that happen unexpectedly and randomly, and for someone to show that amount of appreciation," Jon Leopold, the restaurant's general manager told the Chicago Tribune.

"It's not just about the money but spending time with people in the kitchen and telling them how wonderful of a meal it was and how important it was for the cooks to be doing what they're doing."

Mike praised the restaurant by telling staff the meal featured the best food and service he’s ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

He then proceeded to pose with the happy kitchen staff in this photo that, unsurprisingly, went viral on Instagram.

The timing is fortuitous as the restaurant is nominated for the prestigious Beard Award for Best service. Mike’s kind gesture may have set Boka apart from other fierce competitors, and shun a light on the big impact they’re having on customers.

We’re predicting that every restaurant would only be too thrilled to wine and dine Mike, and the fact that he’s kept his identity a secret only makes the gesture that much more admirable.
