Kids used to ask for a PlayStation or a pony for Christmas, but it seems these days they'd much rather a water bottle.

While in theory it sounds fabulous – hydration is key after all – when you see the prices of these water bottles, it's a real jaw-dropping moment.

Water bottles have skyrocketed in popularity and even though you can get a perfectly good option for around $10-15, the popular options are closer to the $100 mark.

If it seems like a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a water bottle, that's because it is.

So, if you have a kid begging you for the latest viral water bottle for Christmas, we've come up with a solution.

It seems that plenty of budget stores have jumped on the trend and started to sell dupes of the most popular brands, and if you ask us, the price is really the only difference.

Keep reading to see our favourite dupes for three of the most popular water bottle brands around.

The Stanley Cup had a real moment around a year ago and the hype is definitely still there, mainly because it's the only popular brand that easily fits into a car's cup holder.

It's insane popularity is probably why every brand under the sun has duped it.

One of the first dupes to go viral was the Kmart Jumbo Tumbler with Handle, and while it's been around for a minute it doesn't seem to be leaving stores anytime soon.

You can get your hands on one of these for $15 and judging by the Kmart website, it looks like you've got your pick of solid block colours or fun patterns.

Oh, and it holds a whopping 1.8 litres!

Big W seems to have an array of Stanley dupes ranging from a 1.2L option for $16 to a 1.2L option currently on sale for $5 (we're assuming this one will be hard to get your hands on).

Woolworths and The Reject Shop have also jumped on board the trend, each with a 1.2L dupe for $16.

Owala

The Owala is the latest water bottle to go viral, with fans of the brightly coloured bottle loving it because of the option to switch between drinking from a straw or spout.

While it may be a slightly intimidating contraption at first glance, these water bottles have skyrocketed in popularity over the past few months, which means that unfortunately there aren't too many dupes on the market at the moment.

Of course, we can always rely on Kmart to pull through, this time with a 940ml ($15) and 530ml ($12) option.

The only other reasonable dupe we could find is from Amazon, but you're looking at a steeper price of $29 for the same size as the larger Kmart option.

Frank Green

The Frank Green water bottle is the OG. This is the water bottle that kicked off the world's obsession with water bottles.

Now a Frank Green water bottle isn't particularly hard to dupe, it doesn't have any quirky gimmicks like the Owala or Stanley. It's just a basic, insulated water bottle.

This means that basically every brand ever has a dupe of the Frank Green. So rather than listing the ones we found (there were many) we've picked out some favourites.

The Brilliant Basics Insulated Drink Bottle from Big W seems like a great option, holding 950ml with multiple colours available and a price tag of just $14.

Kmart also has a solid dupe with the 960ml Double Wall Insulated Cylinder Drink Bottle for $14.

But we'll be honest, when it comes to Frank Green dupes they all seem pretty standard and you can probably get your hands on one at most department stores.
