'KitKat Kabins' are the new hit Christmas treat but people aren't convinced

Move over gingerbread houses, 'KitKat Kabins' are the new it thing when it comes to edible Christmas decorations.

Aussies are reportedly ditching the traditional gingerbread architecture this year and using KitKat bars to create their festive mini-houses (or 'kabins').

Nestle have cashed in on the trend, selling $45 'KitKat Kabin' kits – try saying that five times fast – on its official website.

The kits come with five classic KitKats, two KitKat 'cookies and cream', two packs of chocolate melts, one box of smarties, Allen's Freckles and Ripe Raspberries and one miniature KitKat Santa.

If you don't fancy setting it up yourself, you can drop an extra $20 to have the 'kabin' assembled in advance, and pick it up from one of Australia's two KitKat boutiques in Sydney or Melbourne.

When it looks this cute and tastes just as good, it's no wonder people are snapping up the kits and sharing their own creations online.

"This is far more to my taste than gingerbread!" one woman wrote.

Some have also tried to DIY their own without ordering a kit, using the KitKats they can buy in stores like Coles and Woolworths.

While most Aussies are loving the new trend, gushing about it on social media, some people aren't convinced.

"Really? A house made out of chocolate in the Aussie summer?" one person said. "It will be totally melted in a few hours."

Another pointed out that families would have to eat their KitKat creations fast to save the chocolate from melting , or keep it in the fridge.

And you can forget about setting it out as a tasty decoration on Christmas day.

"My kids would demolish that in two seconds, no question about it," one mum wrote. Honestly, we agree with her kids.
