Celebrity chef Khanh Ong reveals the most underrated pantry staple

It's a universally agreed upon opinion – grocery shopping kind of sucks.

Even if you go in with a list, it's hard to resist wandering the aisles for any fun new treats you can snack on.

The general distaste for grocery shopping is the reason many of us leave it until we're absolutely desperate, instead using the dregs of our fridge and pantry to come up with some kind of semi-nutritional meal to enjoy.

But, it seems the key to grocery shopping less could be grocery shopping smarter.

Celebrity chef Khanh Ong has shared his number one underrated pantry staple that every Aussie should always be stocked up on.

"I'm very much in my pasta era! I've just come home from Italy, and some of the most incredible pasta dishes I had were so simple," he tells 9honey Kitchen.

He shared that creating a delicious meal is as simple as adding some lemon, zucchini and a "good drizzle of olive oil."

And if you want to whip up something a little fancier, Ong says there's a fan favourite pasta dish that can easily be simplified.

"Spaghetti and meatballs! I just learned how to make the six-hour version but if I'm lazy, get some Italian spicy sausage, take the mince out of the casing and roll it into meatballs," he explains.

"Drop it in a good quality passata with some basil – or pasta sauce if your budget doesn't allow for extra herbs – pop it on medium with a lid for 25 to 30 minutes, serve with pasta and call it a day."

And if you want to make it even easier, just grab some store bought meatballs to take out a step!
