Stale cheese is a thing of the past with this trick of the future

You can bid the woes of hardened, cracked, stale cheese goodbye, thanks to a ground-breaking hack for keeping it fresh.

TikTok user Shannon Doherty shared her method in a video, explaining what should be done when you slice through a block of cheese.

Many of us wrap our cheese in plastic wrap, but Doherty says the answer has been right in front of us this entire time.

"This is one of those life hacks that blew my mind and changed my everyday life," she says in the video, which has been viewed more than 222,000 times.

"You know when you cut a block of cheese? Save the top packaging - it fits back on to reseal."

As she slices into the block, making a clear incision in the packet, Doherty informs her 530,000 followers to use the excess plastic from the packet to conceal the exposed part of the cheese.

She then slides the discarded part of the packet over the cheese block to form a tight seal.

The video captioned "Best LIFE HACK. This is so good it should be part of the directions," has been liked over 30,000 times and flooded with comments from users who couldn't believe they never thought to try it.

"Why didn't I think of that???!!!" marvelled one TikTok user.

"The simplest things we don't think about!" said another.

"That's actually smart," another added.

In a comment Doherty verified she couldn't take credit for the hack, but said she was grateful for it.

"This is so smart, whoever thought of it is genius!" she wrote.

"Especially because I love cheese."
