Gatorade optical illusion divides fans who can't agree on its colour

When it comes to Gatorade and Powerade, it's pretty normal to refer to the different flavours by their colours – everyone loves a blue Powerade but no one calls it Mountain Blast, right?

Well, that seems like a pretty easy system to follow in theory... but in practice, not so much.

There's been a heated debate this week about lemon-lime Gatorade, with some people calling it yellow, and others swearing that it's green. It's like that viral blue/gold dress saga all over again.

It all started with a TikTok video uploaded by a football team in Tennessee, USA.

"Is this Gatorade yellow or green?" one player asked his teammates, sparking a fierce debate among the team.

For some context, one player said that it had been an internal debate among the team for a while. He explained: "There's been a lot of talk going on about what colour lemon and lime Gatorade is and honestly man, I'm not here to sugar coat things bro, if you think this is yellow I need you to reevaluate your eyesight."

One of his teammates definitely didn't take too kindly to that evaluation. "It's yellow, you're psychotic. HOW IS THAT GREEN? LOOK AT THE GRASS," comparing the colour of the bottle to the field.

Another player dubbed the colour "highlighter yellow," while a different person declared it "neon green".

The argument was almost settled as a player used a green grape as a comparison tool: "Take a green grape, put it next to the Gatorade, you will see it's the same exact colour."

But then that simple act had people in the comment section even more confused. "Now I'm wondering if grapes are actually yellow," one person wrote.

"Not gonna lie, the green grape next to it has me re-evaluating my eyes," said another user.

At the end of the video, no one could come to a conclusion. Though viewers weighed in in the comment section, it seems everyone has a different opinion on the true colour of lemon-lime Gatorade.

However, there's one comment that's pretty convincing, with a user taking a look at the ingredients list for the answer: "The fact it is made with Yellow-5 dye pretty much answers the question."

Well, there you have it. Maybe it is yellow, after all. Though the green grape was pretty convincing...
